Can I connect solar panels of different watts in parallel?

    Hello,

I would like to connect a 60w and 24w panel in parallel so I get more wattage. Does doing this cause any damage to the system?

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi Jon,

The most important thing is having the same voltage when connecting parallel. You won't do any damage to the system, but you could reduce your output if not connected properly. If you need help going on from here, just let me know!

You can do this, and your inverter would most likely turn on, but I would not reccomend it. The reason is that these different modules will have different Open Circuit and Max Power voltages on the two different strings, which will keep your inverter from reaching it's max power point tracking state, at which it produces the most power. As a rule of thumb, any time you are mixing and matching modules you need to make sure that the characteristics of (voltage, current, power curve) are as close as possible for effecient operation of the system. Usually a manufacturer's newer version of a discontinued models is a good substitute. Be sure to look at the equipment spec sheet!
