    Undergraduate Research Help!!

    Hello Solar Community,

I'll begin by asking all of you to excuse my overt ignorance in respect to this topic. I came onto this forum hoping to learn from you.

I'm an undergraduate performing a preliminary feasibility study for a small solar installation on the premises of a proposed community garden at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada. The purpose of this deployment would be to provide power for a small (approx.) 35 ft x 25 ft. brick building, for basic automated irrigation controls, and for a small lighting program (if necessary). FY 2011 the site consumed approximately 101,000 KWh of electricity. Two questions:

    • Would this project qualify for any state or federal rebates?

    • I will not have a precise size for the installation until the architectural dept. completes the design for the garden in the upcoming months. I'd like to provide estimated cost/savings over time ($/mo, $/FY, etc.) Given the information I've given above, what other information do I need to do this? Any advice on a general path to completing this study?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Best Regards,

    From Las Vegas, NV

Very first thing to do is an Energy Audit to determine the maximum amount of Watt Hours you need in any give day of a 24 hour period of time, and what time of year use is required. You cannot pass GO until you do that. From there it is down hill.
