    >>>>>>Billboard Solar Lights...NEED HELP......>>>>H E L P<<<< LOL

Okay... here is the deal... I know more about flying to the Moon than I do Solar Light Systems... and that's no joke...LOL. So I need any help I can get from you Brainy Guys. I installed vinyls on a lot of billboards along two major highways in my South Carolina area... I-95 and I-26. They average in size of 10 ft x 36 ft... some are a tag larger. My problem is that I need to light up about 20 boards with some kind of solar light system. I can't afford to have some company come in with their high dollar systems on that many boards.... so... I have to DIY this project myself. I need the lights to be dusk to dawn... and not even the total night ... 6-8 hrs would work... but of course all night would be best. I've been on all kinds of internet sites trying to get a understanding of what I need, but somehow all that Tec Stuff spins my brain around like a top. I'm more of the type guy who does what he is told to do, even if he doesn't understand it. It also seems like the solar world is changing faster and faster as well. So... can you Brainy Guys help me out with some ideas of what I need and where to get the best prices on so many systems? Thanks so much... Dan

I know Morningstar made a solar charging controller that had a dusk to dawn output. There may be others but that would be a starting point. Then all you need to do is calculate the load of the LEDs and figure out which voltage works best. The most economical would probably be 12 v DC so you would not need an inverter to go to 120 v AC. Then take Watt hour estimates and translate that into battery capacity and solar panel capacity and you would have a system. If you are buying 20 each of charge controllers, batteries and solar panels you can probably get design help from a supplier. There may even be one in your area but this is not the usual solar install stuff anyway. Two mail order places that i have has luck with are Arizona Wind & Sun and Alt-E but there are lots more that a search will reveal.

Amazon sells solar streetlights, why not give them a try?

Well... as matter of fact... China Lights from Amazon will be my first test lights. I should receive this light on Tuesday to try out. Hopefully this light will have enough brightness to handle a board of that size for a few hours at night... may have to install more... will soon find out. If they do work.. I'll then be shopping around for a volume deal somewhere. I'm not sure if it will have enough lumens...watts... or led's... I was out of school the day they taught that stuff...LOL. Trial and error can get expensive so I need to get it right somewhere down this road. Thanks Guys for your help and tips. May Jesus Bless You in Many Ways.

A picture of my billboards... some of you may have seen them traveling through this state... but this sign has lights already from the company... but many boards do NOT... so it's up to me to make something happen.

You are correct on them facing south... that is why I'm going to use a light that has a separate solar panel, so that it can be moved around... even attaching a longer cable for better positioning. Thanks... Dan
