Wife iron is killing me. When she irons, it eats 1800 watts of power that makes my house a.c. put my net meter into purchase mode. No iron no problem! I cannot find an energy efficient steam iron on the net. Best case 1400 watts. Time shifting is obvious, her time preference is daylight. Now 93 degrees during the day and 6.6 KW system is handling a.c., variable speed pool pump 368 watts,1750 rpm, all electrical house hold drain works perfectly from 9-545pm daily, sunny day a must. Anybody found or uses a better iron than 1400 watts? Thanks!

Have you considered switching to clothes that don't need to be ironed? Also, I've found that running freshly washed clothes in the dryer for 5-10 minutes then hanging them on hangers while they are still warm and damp to finish drying, helps minimize the wrinkles of drying them all the way in the dryer. -

A lower wattage iron will mean she needs to iron longer so use more power. The only problem is that now you have solar you are letting it control your life, so many people do. Happy wife happy life, let her iron as much as she wants when she wants.Comment

People whose utility imposes residential demand charges may care about clothes iron power draw, too, so you're not alone.
Searching for "clothes iron 1100 watt -travel" on amazon finds one hit, and there are lots of 800 watt travel irons. The 800 watt travel irons are fairly cheap...

I appreciate all the replies! In order, her golf shorts MUST have creases, her golf collars MUST be pressed, she pulls all iron required clothes out of the dryer early and hangs them in the laundry room, Yes, going solar has taken ove!r! Watts TOD, RPM, gas vs electric, generation vs consumption, all priorities now. Once I get this all down, it should be a lot better. Finding 800 watt iron saves us 1000 watts and that was all I was looking for.ThanksComment

You could ask her to switch to a charcoal iron.
But you might want to make sure the couch is comfortable for sleeping on before you do that.

Need to let us know how the wife likes a low wattage iron that takes longer to heat up and doesn't get as hot. You may need to duck behind that couch you are sleeping on when she throws it at you.😉Comment

Spouse change out is expensive and overkill, especially if otherwise fit for purpose. Join a naturist resort that has a golf course and amenities. Donate the iron and all the clothes to Goodwill. Problem solved. Bonus: Food stains are easily removed. Drawback: Frying bacon can get tricky.Comment
