For anyone in Maryland that has installed solar and has Pepco

    Hello,

Recently had solar installed (Solar Energy World) and received authorization to operate last week. I have been monitoring the generation as well as Pepco's daily/hourly energy readings, and already inquired with both our installing company and Pepco, and so far no one has been able to answer this question.

Since the solar has been turned on - the energy usage (hourly and daily, according to Pepco that is transmitted directly from the net meter) has not changed for our home - it is normal usage. The solar is working and generating, and the net meter does show the energy going backwards into the grid when solar is active during the day, so I know that is functioning. According to the installer, and on Pepco's website, solar supplies the house with energy first, and then if more power is needed then it comes from Pepco - thus the hourly/daily energy usage should be simply what Pepco supplies when solar is not. Anyone have any additional info on this? Thanks!

    Hi eryeal,

I am also I MD with PEPCO and am currently waiting for the authorization to operate letter. How long it take to get permission to operate? It's been a week since the net meter was installed.

Did you end up figuring out what was going on with the usage as recorded by Pepco? I turned my system on for a day to test and despite running the meter backwards all day saw no effect on the hourly consumption when I checked the next day. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

      Hello,

It wasn't that long after the net meter was installed - I know it pretty much followed however long Pepco said it would take.

Also yes everything was worked out with the usage - you basically just have to wait quite a while until everything sorts out. It takes about 2 months to get your first bill after the net meter is installed. Once you get your first bill everything should be good.

Thanks for the reply, glad to know everything works out. Are you able to see amount of energy supplied to the grid on an hourly basis on Pepco's website or do you have to rely on the bill to see the net amount your system generates? In other words, does the usage history show negative consumption during the day while the panels are producing?

Actually yes - it's a recent change that it shows you hourly negative consumption (it use to only show Pepco supplied energy hourly). I find the Pepco App easier to use actually and see. The app shows you: Daily Energy Delivered to you from Pepco, Daily Energy Received by Pepco from you, and then a daily net of the two. It also shows you the previously mentioned hourly graph of energy, positive and negative.

Great to know they're improving data reporting, thanks for the information. Now I just have to wait for the final authorization to operate, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, except I don't know how long I have to wait.
