short wire can damage solar panel?

Hello Friends,

I have just bought a solar panel and installed on roof.

When I was testing with meter, I was initially giving 1.2 amp aprox and 20 volts.

after half an hour I come to know that my insulated wires was heating due to short circuit inside.

I have then immediately disconnected panel.

ok now I am testing panel with meter and it shows 20V and .8 amp only.

did I lost .2 amp permanently or something due to short circuit? or it is fine. how can I come to know?

The current will be sensitive to the available sunlight. If the sun is in a different position (or there is a difference in cloudiness) each time you make a measurement, you will get a different amperage.

And solar panels are totally unaffected by short circuits. They can handle Isc indefinitely without damage.
They may get a little hotter than they would with a working MPPT load. Same temp as panels with the outputs open.
