Solar energy SCI 320 project. (need help!!!)

Hi my name is Ryan Taylor I am currently a student at SUNY Cortland, which is located in the Upstate/Central New York region. I am enrolled in Sci320 here at SUNY Cortland, which deals with topics such as wind energy, solar energy, etc...
Currently I have been assigned a group project on the construction of solar panels on top of a building on campus (Bowers Hall). Obviously I do not actually have to construct this project just have to write a report including:
-An in-depth description of solar energy and facts about solar energy.
-Previous solar energy projects, which prove and clearly show that money savings on electricity, etc...
-Costs of how much this project would be (need costs of labor, materials, etc...)
-Tools and materials that would be needed
-Upkeep and cost of upkeep, etc...

Feel free to e-mail me at ryntaylor24@yahoo.com if you are willing to help me out. As much help as possible is needed.
Thank you all for your time,
    Ryan Taylor

İ thought it was your assignment - that would include doing research and putting it together! That does not mean having others do your work for you!

      Welcome onboard Ryan

Thanks for joining Ryan, you come to the right great forum to ask help about solar panel.
Of course you need perform more to collect infos already posted here and ask what you still can't find.
If you work in a group, then you can divide the works and ask your group members to join here too.
      What do you think?

Well Russ I know that it is my own project and I have to do my own research but it is hard to do all of it when your group members don't help you. I am just looking for more or better information than I already have and I have already looked at a lot of websites that are misleading.

İt would be a bit more credible if you put something together and then asked people to assist with a review or suggestions for items to include.

What you want is easily available but does take some effort.

Okay Russ I am not trying to be an ass but I asked for help not criticism. If you do not like me asking for help then simply don't reply to this post.
            Thank you

-An in-depth description of solar energy and facts about solar energy.
                Google

-Previous solar energy projects, which prove and clearly show that money savings on electricity, etc...
Look for a setup in your area and talk to the right person to get more info, maybe a copy of their electric bill? Or there are lots of personal websites where people monitor their system and compare to bill before solar

-Costs of how much this project would be (need costs of labor, materials, etc...)
this is a broad question. it depends on how much power your looking to get from solar

-Tools and materials that would be needed
solar panels, inverter, batteries? if storing power w/ batteries, then you'll a charge controller, mounting equipment, wires

-Upkeep and cost of upkeep, etc...
really no upkeep, just brush off the snow and debris when it piles on

And don't forget the "poison pill" the utility companys try to feed you. Called the "standby charge", or "demand charge". When the San Diego, CA. schools added solar, their electric bill went UP, because of billing SNAFU. Seems like commercial users are also billed on peak demand, and when a cloud goes by, shutting down solar, utility draw goes up, and you get charged extra for that. Lots extra $$.
