does anyone know much about these things, are they practical/safe? I saw several youtube videos of people who put them in there cars and get better gas mileage, to me it seems like this could take a toll on the life of your engine because it wasnt built for this, has anyone ever done this? I find the idea very interesting to say the least, I just may try building a small experimental one.

sure - create explosive amounts of hydrogen gas under the hood of your car. What could go wrong ? Unfortunately, the amount of hydrogen generated is not enough to make a real difference in your engine performance.
Most unfortunately, the energy needed to split the H2O is more than the energy you get by burning the hydrogen. (Pesky Laws of Thermodynamics.)
Restated Laws.
1. You can't win.
2. You can't even break even.
3. You can't get out of the game.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment

hahaha inetdog that is an interesting point and I'm sure its true, you seem like a very knowledgeable person in all of this stuff. but another newb question here, you don't think the alternator could pick up the slack of the voltage being sucked by the hho generator? what if you upgraded your alternator to compensate for it? and what's with this sunking fella, I thought this part of the forms was for casual entertaining conversation? whatever man its all good.Comment

The alternator will certainly supply the extra current needed to electrolyze the water. No problem there, and in fact except for draining the battery there is not other place that electrical energy could come from.
But what is turning the alternator? The engine.
And the more current the alternator delivers, the harder it is to keep it spinning.
So, just like when you turn on the A/C in the car and your gas mileage goes down, the engine has to do more work and burn more gas to allow the alternator to supply the additional current.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment

And in the end someone finally determined how much "extra" energy they were getting out of all that stuff which turned out to be nothing or more energy used than created.
So like the old alchemists stories of trying to turn lead into gold... sure it can be done but it will cost more to do it than what the gold is worth even at $1500/oz. So the description of being a "fairy tale" is spot on.Comment

But it will all come out OK in the end, because they are just having a "midlife ISIS".SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment

Make no difference what size alternator or battery you have, all the energy comes from the engine driving the alternator which charges the battery which makes the hydrogen. The first thing you learn in physics 101 science class is the Law's of Physics most notable are Thermal Dynamics and Conservation of Energy. Those two laws basically say Energy is neither created or destroyed. Energy is transformed from one state to another. Each transformation is less than 100% efficient and losses will be incurred. If you know what those two simple laws of physics mean, then you know HHO is a FOOLS GAME. If you do not like being called a FOOL, then quit being foolish. Otherwise you get hit with the 3rd Law of Economics: Fools and their money will soon be separated.
HHO has 4 energy transformations.
1. Gasoline being burned and creating rotational energy of about 30% efficiency meaning you loose 70% of the energy as waste heat.
2. Rotational energy changed into electrical energy by the alternator. Again only about 60 to 75% efficient. 35 to 40% lost as heat charge inefficiency.
3. Electrical Energy changed to chemical energy during the electrolysis process to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Efficiency varies wildly from as low as 30 to 50% using HHO scam methods, up to about 90% using top secret USN submarine oxygen generators aka EOG's that use Platinum electrodes and membranes. HHO looses more energy than is converted.
4. Returning hydrogen back to an engine which is not designed to burn hydrogen.
Think of it like this. You invest $100 with me today. Then any down after, even today or 30 years from now you cash out, I will give you $5. I will take all the money you wil give me no questions asked. Ready to invest? I promise both of us will be tickled pink. I will give you a bonus pink feather for every $100 you invest. Otherwise go buy a HHO kit or plans.MSEE, PEComment

why the hell would I buy an HHO kit? so basically I'm a little pigeon who gets plucked...failed science class.....believe in fairy tales.....oh and I'm foolish....you must be a really intelligent person to be able to tell all of that about me from one posting over the internet!!! that's amazing! good job little buddy!!!..........thanks for the information though...and sorry for being curious....damnComment
