Free solar in Maryland, possible EMF exposure?

I am ignorant, need advice. Apparently there is now a program in Maryland, or in our county, to help homeowners go solar. Many have been contacted by solar companies offering free panels and installation on good-exposure-roofs in exchange for the rights to and proceeds of your energy generation and offering you a long-term specific percent discount on electricity bills. This is not a scam, I am told by environmental advocates. I would like to lessen our carbon footprint, in addition to our lifestyle modifications. BUT, does anyone know whether or not EMF EXPOSURE is increased by the solar panels on your roof in addition to the smart meter required for monitoring energy usage and generation? Has anyone measured EMF in a home with solar panels vs. pre-solar panels. Is there any shielding one could do to the inverter or is there an EMF barrier one could install between the solar system and the house? Which forum is more appropriate for this question? Thanks!

I'm under the understanding that EMFs created from DC PV array is a lot less than a small AC home appliance... such as a coffee maker.

However, Here is a Government's 40+ page study I skimmed through recently. I didn't see any alarming results.

I have a Garmin bike computer that has a chest band for heart rate - ANT communication between the two. If there are any power lines around it goes bug ----- The first time I saw my heart rate go to 180 then 200 then 240 I was scratching my head. This was in India but I expect most places are similar.

I thought the heart rate was a neat toy but found it to be useless. That is EMF - we are subjected to it all the time and I consider it no big deal.

Excuse me!!! I would worry more about the excess radiation you get from Xrays at a doctors office or staying out in the sun without any lotion then the energy of magnetic fields being generated by solar panel equipment or smart meters?

SunEagle - You got it! The greens work at making people scared of this and it amounts to nothing.

Solar panels produce DC power, like the battery in your car, LED book light.....

There is inverter that converts the DC to AC, and that gadget can produce EMF, but it's generally pretty close to the main electrical panel. Might be measurable if it's located on your bedroom wall.

I would not worry much about it. When the grid goes down from inadequate power generation, all the EMF stops.

That is the least of your worries.
The power lines on your street or the ones you travel near have much higher emf than your residential system could ever produce.

Get ready to be fleeced by those trying to market their goods to an unknowledgeable "green" demographic. Instead of facts, they play on emotion, and nearly all never consider the TOTAL lifecycle costs, either financially or carbon-based. All that matters is that you open your wallet to cover the up-front cost.

One of the scams is to convince you that you need a personal emf-meter.

Shielding would be more to contain radio-interference fields generated by today's modern switch-mode power supplies that are not properly filtered, or sneaked past FCC testing, rather than overloaded human-exposure fields from solar gear.

If you want to cut your carbon footprint, start with your own two feet and conserve what is already in your own living space.

                    +1 .

Best advise to lowering carbon emissions is to use less energy and conserve.
