    Solar Kayak?

Ok time for a new experiment as the last one failed and I sold it. I have a fishing kayak that I am mounting a trolling motor to I want to power it with a small marine battery and supplement (slow charge) with a solar panel. The motor draws 12.5 amps 12v at half power this equals 150watts I figure I want/need 50 to 60 watts of power to prolong the battery and recharge. I have seen some 12v 50 to 50 watt panels that are about 2 feet by 3 feet and they may workd but the weight of 13 to 15 lbs is more than I want. I have seen some flexible panels are they any good? what would you suggest? they are to be used on the water and will get very wet.

Good to find out that I'm not the only one to come up with this crazy stuff.
My thought (and this was a long time ago) was not to use a kayak but something more stable and put a panel to double as shade. Wind would probably not allow this to really work. I've had an old trolling motor for years just sitting around making me think up crazy things like this. I should have thrown it away long time ago.

There is another thread where someone has installed a solar panel, battery charger and battery to run a trolling motor for his canoe. He even has videos of it.

Ask your questions about solar modules, mounts, inverters or any other part of your solar energy system. If you want to share the specs for your system, then you can post them here.

        I love it!
That looks like what was in my head. Except I was thinking of something wider (home made) for more stability. FloridaSun had the same thought. One gust of wind and.......Also I wouldn't put the $$$ for a charge controller. I probably would use every bit of power and if I stopped on shore for a beer or something I figure I could monitor it. I would have a volt gage.
