On the thread, found an interesting new (to me) lithium battery system in the comments - juice box solar - which use batteries to time shift usage (which interestingly _can_ be beneficial to utilities that have load problems) - and provides emergency back up.

Yes, completely agree. I had a salesman knock on my door to propose a PPA, that's what got me interested in solar.

After researching and doing a complete cost analysis, I then knew why they push PPAs so hard in my state (NJ).

I feel bad for the home owner when I see projects going up and know it's a PPA from a big box dealer. Some people on my street are senior citizens signing 20 year agreements. Utility rates haven't even been climbing in my area by the '5%' that the dealers claim.

Based on about 80+ installs in my HOA that I've got a pretty good knowledge of, the most egregious treatment (screwing) from vendors is almost always reserved for the elderly marks - which is not to say a lot of the rest of it is always, IMO anyway, ethical. I suppose that makes solar no different than other home improvement operations.

As you age you may find the intrusions from such roaches peddling that crap become more frequent.
I've got a fart machine for such intrusions that get through.
That backfired (pardon the pun) once. Some pervo kept calling back mentioning something about a glass top coffee table.Go figure.
