Every little bit helps, I guess!
No idea if or when this will emerge from the lab.

The development of transparent electrodes is likely to make it out of the lab at about the same time.

Or maybe they can develop a way of using super conducting wire grid to collect and harvest the electrons. It would also keep the cells cool (~ 10 d above absolute zero) which would also help increase the cell output.
