The Nobel Prize in Physics 2014 was awarded jointly to Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura "for the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources"

One on-line news feed had the headline "Nobel Prize awarded to investors of LED".
I hope we don't ever reach the point where financing an invention is honored as much as the intellectual effort involved.
