Why is India not giving enough support and incentive to people adopting solar energy?

India is very much dependent on imported fuel as you said - however in 50 years solar will most likely be a very minor part of the mix.

The Indian government wasting money on solar subsidies is beyond silly to me - it will be in the pockets of a few.

India has the potential to solve its energy demand-supply mismatch with solar energy, India can solve its Budget Problem with solar energy, We can control our currency in a better way if we are less dependent on oil [...]

Subsidies are given for uneconomical things in India but giving subsidy to solar systems to roof-top facilities makes sense:

Reasons:

1 India has a huge energy shortage
2 Coal is getting Expensive day by day
3 Solar energy is sustainable
4 We in India have huge solar availability of on an average 5 hours daily
