Newbie here with an issue.

hi all, I recently bought a house which has privately owned solar panels that heat the water in a water tank. The problems arise with the fact that I work nights and everyday around 11 am (3 hours before I wake) the water tank comes on? It's very loud as the tank is in my bedroom. My best guess is the thermostat limits the tank to 60 degrees and it is dumping the hot water to stop it getting too hot. Is there anyway around this as 1) it must be wasting a lot of water (I'm on a water meter) and 2) it wakes me up without fail about 11ish am. Every time I check when it happens it's always around 60 degrees. Is it possible to add something like a battery pack so that once it hits the limit it diverts the energy?

You need to give more details if you like to get more relevant answers. For me something doesn't add up: assuming 60 degrees is in Celsius as I wouldn't call 60 F particular 'hot water' but everything is relative I wonder what kind of sun radiation you have there that it manages to make tank that hot by 11 AM? Here in CA Sun just starts to shine at that time after getting through morning clouds. Your question doesn't include important details about equipment- type, model numbers, etc. It doesn't really make sense to me to heat water with electricity produced by solar panels for example.

Hey I will get the details tommorow, I'm in England the sun starts shining right here about 6 am. I bought the house and it came with it, there is no gas/combo boiler. Electric radiators and solar panels for hot water. And yes Celsius.

Sounds like the high temp/high pressure safety valve is blowing off excess hot water. You need to call in a pro to have it checked.

I think i will have to, I got woke up by the hot water tank making knocking sounds and the "Col" on the temperature gauge was 130 degrees (its usually 60ish) **** knows whats going on. Also on another setting which just says n 0% it usually says n 100%.

Hi again, so its using a Deltasol BS Plus controller, ( http://www.resol.de/Produktdokumente...s_V2.monen.pdf ) its a thermal solar panel ( http://emmeti.co.uk/wp-content/uploa...r-VP-Panel.jpg ) and its running to a Gledhill water tank. There is a pump in the attic. The pump has been running 24/7 now and driving me crazy. I posted a video of the sound of it. https://streamable.com/nei6p - This is in my bedrrom from the second i get in at 6 AM and generally wakes me up every time it kicks up which is once every hour for around 30 minutes. Im at my wits end here and starting to thing maybe the best bet is to just get rid of it, So if anyone has any advice on how to make it less loud (reduced pump or something or limited hours, does anyone know if i can sell this sort of thing or if its a bin job? cheers.

I'm with LucMan on this one. Call a service provider and get the system checked out. The problems could be simple, complicated or multiple, or all of the above, but without being onsite and hands on, it's hard to diagnose. In the mean time, if the noise is getting to you, and if it's unlikely to get below 0 C. at nite, cover the collectors and shut the system off until serviced.
