    Vacuum Tube system to heat pool.

    Has anyone used vacuum tubes to heat a pool? They are over 90% efficient at heating water, but Im wondering how many I would need to heat a 20,000 gl pool a few degrees.

    Doesnt work well for pool applications
    Any copper will self destruct rapidly from the chlorine and chemicals.
    Best to use an actual pool collector.
    Fafco Heliocol and solar industries make collectors expressly for rhis purpose.

      Vacuum pipes are for high temp differentials, where the expensive insulation (nothing) is required. Pools don't require that they have high heat, and the chemicals will not likely be kind to the plumbing.

        You would have to use a heat exchanger between your array and the pool water, usually made of titanium to with stand different disinfection systems and chemicals. Big bucks for that HX, you could probably buy the entire pool panel system for the equivalent cost of just the HX.

          That is what I do on indoor pools doesn't matter if evac tube or flat plate. The copper doesn't hold up and unless it is an indoor year round pool is not close to being worth the cost.

            Apart from the Copper Corrosion issues, there are other quality issues with vaccume tubes. After a while the epdm gasket starts leaking due to regular contraction and expansion. Once it happens the entire collector has to be shut down.

              Vac. tube collectors are best used for higher temps., like for process heating applications. For a lot of reasons they're probably not that cost effective for DWH applications compared to a decent standard type flat plate copper system, and real overkill for pool heating.

              For pool heating, lower tech flat plates of non metallic materials are more appropriate and much less expensive.
