So here is my query. I run a B&B in Spain (lots of sunshine) and one of the rooms has a hot tub attached. To warm the hot tub from scratch takes 6 hours, which is too long when I have same day turn arounds (change water for every new guest). I figured if I could pre-heat the water in a 45 gallon black drum for a few days I may be able to get the temperature to a level so it takes a few hours less to heat and saves a bit of energy. So I have built a solar coil made of 50m black pvc piping, 16mm diameter and put it on top of a 45 gallon drum. I tested it in February, with water from the tap and the temperature went from 13 celcius on entry to 20 celcius on exit. My question is what sized pump will I need to pump the water 2m high, around the black coil and back into the tank. I have been told that because it is a closed loop system then the head height for the pump is less important. I purchased the below pump with that theory in mind but soon realized it is way way too small
Pump I purchased
Specification:
Solar Panel: 7V, 160MA
Solar Panel Size: 11 * 11cm
Pump power: 7V, 140MA
Quantity maximum pump flow: 170L / H
pump Height: 75cm
I realize there is a lot of friction pumping that much water around that much piping but can anyone recommend a good sized pump which is able to run of a solar panel. I had thought about the one in the link below but I want to make sure it will work.
Pump I am thinking of:
Panel Solar Energy Water Pump for Fountain Pond 12V 380L / H
Solar Pump Supply
Solar Panel: 12V 420MA
Controller: NC ATtiny13
Pump: brushless motor or shaft
Voltage: 12V, 5W
Current: 300mA;
head: 180cm
flow: 380L / H
I know you are all very busy people but I do appreciate any advice.
Many Thanks
