solar heat grabber

I am planning on building a 6x6 solar heat collector before this winter. The ones I've been reading about use a polycarbonite sheet. One brand was called suntuf I believe. Anyway, all of the panels I have seen have some sort of UV protection. Wouldn't I want something without UV protection? Isn't three UV what generates the heat?

Plastic is degraded by UV light - therefore all products for this use and long life have additives to protect themselves from UV.

Actually most of the Thermal Energy comes from the other end of the spectrum, down by the infra-red end as opposed to the ultra-violet.
