Solar skylight

Gidday all. Haven't got much of a clue about solar and led's but here goes. I saw a solar powered "skylight" which mimmicks the light so it appears to be a skylight. It consisted of a solar panel, a length of wire and a 300mm ceiling light. I thought it was a good idea, but I cant justify spending $270 on one. I can buy a 24v led light for around $50 but don't know the power output, etc of a solar panel. Can anybody steer me in the right direction, be it a website or whatever. Thanks in advance, Andrew

As I have stated, I know little about solar. If a solar "skylight" is worth $270+ and it would cost me more to do it myself, how is it that I can go and buy a box with 200 solar led Christmas lights with 20mt cable for $10.00? . The Chrissy lights are very basic quality and I suppose I'd be lucky to get a couple of years out of them. Is there a "good" website that you know of that would give me a bit better understanding of the basics of Solar. Thanks in advance. Andrew

There is probably no better place on the planet than here to learn the basics and even the advanced aspects of solar of all varieties. (And best of all for free)
Try reading some of the threads on whatever you are interested in. Use the search function on the home page. Pretty much anything you could want to learn abut has been discussed at least once if not hundreds of times.
If you are looking for answers that you want to hear as opposed to facts based on physics, codes and best practice than perhaps somewhere else may be a better fit. However if you want the truth and good advice even if sometimes abrupt and not what you wanted to hear than this is the place to be.

Actually all skylights are solar by definition.

I expect that the 270$ unit is made to some reasonable standard while the Xmas tree lights would fall under the heading of a toy.
