One of my solaredge inverter is down. SolarEdge would not help and want me to go through my installer, my installer is cricket. Paying another contractor to come out to perform the work will cost 10x the price of an inverter. Anyone replace their own inverter?

Replacing an inverter requires commissioning via the SetApp. Usually an installer has to do that -- do you have that capability?
Is the higher cost of using a different contractor rather than your original installer due to replacement labor being included in the warranty?

What does the paperwork/documentation you got with your system have to say about warrany exclusions ?
Also, what did SolarEdge tell you when you asked them how DIY replacements affect their warranty.Comment

If you can find an installer to do the work it will help with warranty coverage for the new inverter. It is not the process that is difficult but insuring that the new inverter's manufacturer will provide support in the future. That said, there is a procedure for installing the new inverter that is not followed precisely could damage the new inverter and shorten its useful life. For 2-3 hours of an experienced solar electrician's time I would look at it in part as insurance for the new inverter.Comment

sorry guys, it's actually the optimizer that is bad not sure if they are the same as I thought they are called micro inverters?
My system is saying that it's not reporting. Created a ticket with SE and they asked me for some information and then later said to go to my installer or another license contractor to go get some reading off the optimizer.
Just went to power cycle the system to see if it helps.Last edited by dannieboiz; 04-04-2023, 02:49 PM.Comment

I'm a pretty handy guy but would not want to go up on the roof to pull a panel to access the Optimizer.

This SE video talks a little bit about mounting and setting up Optimizers, but it's a different inverter. Might still be interesting.
Find the video by searching for "How to Install SolarEdge - North America version"
I'd post the link but VBulletin keeps flagging my post as a potential scam.Last edited by Srrndhound; 04-04-2023, 05:16 PM.SolarEdge 12.3kWp grid-tie, 19.4kWh, SW IdahoComment
