Just Started Installing the GAF Energy Timberline Solar Roofing. Thoughts?

    GAF Energy Timberline Solar:
    Eliminate Lag Bolts
    Eliminate Wind Uplift
    Eliminate Rodents and Bird Activity
    Easier Maintenance
    Easier Installation

I hope these solar shingles are better then the ones introduced by DOW a few years back. Let us know how they work for you.

I would also like to know where those shingles are being manufactured. Is it from a new plant or one of the existing ones?

We were concerned with the same questions⚡
Background: Located in the Silicon Valley of CA (so the engineers are asking/addressing the same things in the heart of our installation area)

We’ve been installing residential BIPV for over a decade and this is clearly the winner of any product the crews have put their hands on thus far.

GAF Energy assembles and partially manufactures its shingles at its new facility in San Jose, California. The company currently imports its PV cells from Thailand.

I use to work for GAF a while ago so I am interested in where the shingles are made and if they will stand up to the heat that killed off the previous solar shingles. I guess the only way to find out is to wait and watch.

The other thing is the connections. Depending on how the panels are configured, there may be MANY more interconnects that may need attention over the years.

The connections are accessible, allowing for others (roofers/electricians, etc.) to work on the system if needed.
