    Generac solar with battery backup issue

    To all,

    Thanks for any input on this issue.

    Last August we had 31 320 watt solar panels install with a total battery capacity of 17 kwh. Until the last couple of days everything was working great. Now the Android App (PwrView) is showing no electricity coming from the batteries. After the sun went down, all the electricity is coming from the grid even though the batteries are 100% charged. Prior to this, the batteries would get to 100% charge and then take care of the house needs for the entire night.

    Does this maybe require a inverter reset?

      Hi Kevin, welcome to Solar Panel Talk. The usual first step would be to contact the vendor, have you tried that yet?

          Yep...left them a msg and an email. It was installed by PowerHome (horrible support) and it is a Generac system (inverters, controllers, batteries etc). I also left a voicemail / email for Generac. If they get back to me I will let you know.

              I assume you must have several operating modes for your hybrid inverter.
              Usually at a minimum there is:
              • Backup where the battery is never used to be kept full in case of outage
              • TOU where the battery discharges a certain fixed set amount everyday during set peak hours
              • Self-Supply, where the battery discharges to cover house loads during peak hours.

              The first thing I would do is check what mode you are in.
              Then switch to a different one for a few days, and then go back to the one you are supposed to be on

                  Ok...so I talked to Generac. They can "see" my system remotely and said the voltage from Detroit Edison was down to 211 and the solar equipment (charge controller or inverter) disconnects the solar side because of that. So far, yesterday (6-12) and today (6-13) the system is working as expected. Personally, I would prefer that the system cut the grid supply (which I rarely use) when the system has enough power for the load for say 6 hours.
