Wow, the magazine I've received "forever" has announced it is pulling the plug and will be no more:

Perhaps the fad has gone mainstream. It has certainly become commoditized. And the scammers have taken advantage:

With social media being a much faster and cheaper way to advertise I would say most "printed" documents will be gone shortly.

All you gotta do is look at stock prices and sales number of the manufactures. Going down. Free money is going away. Sun Power stock was worth $10/share 1 year ago today, and today $6.06 which reflects sales figures. In 2016 gross revenue was $2.55, 2017 was $1.87, and 2018 is expected to be $1.2 down 50% in 2 years. Feel sorry for the folks who paid $131/share, they lost 95% of their investment. The numbers tell the story. Advocates hate the numbers and have to divert attention away from the facts. Sales are tanking.

I haven't compared mWatts installed to $ Revenue. Prices of panels are expected to fall globally but I don't know how that will roll out in the USA. I have read a few reports of capital expenditures for future USA manufacturing capacity.
Another report suggests that there is a glut of capacity in China as a result of government subsidies being pulled back. Even though the Chinese may lose sales in the USA they will probably have no problem selling their inventory in other parts of the world.

I believe the same outfit published both mags. FWIW, AZWS posted the demise of Solar Pro ~ 6 wks. ago.

After being associated with it since the mid '70's as more than a hobby but less than a profession, I've noticed public interest in alternate energy seems to run in about the same cycle as subsidies and gov. programs allow the cost of making use of alternate energy somewhat cost competitive with conventional methods in places where the sun shines and the wind blows enough.

The two mags ceasing publication may be partially the result of fewer installers as well as fewer interested users.

The end of gov. largess and mandates for generous NEM schemes will mean the alt. energy business will either grow up and learn to compete on real terms or die. If it can't survive on its own, it deserves to die. If it does survive it'll be stronger and better with better products.

Besides, training wheels always slow the process of learning to ride in the real world.

I look forward to the end of subsidies for the sake of a bigger, better solar industry.

Agree completely. Doesn't this forum get advertising revenue and isn't that revenue based on number of hits and number of subscribers?. If you look at what has happened with renewable energy in Europe and what is happening in India and China the growth of the industry is clear. Even oil rich countries like Saudi Arabia are installing solar.

Glad I didn't bail on Enphase or Tesla. Up 220% and 54% respectively.
