Planning Tools?

Hi everyone,
I am looking into installing solar panels on my roof and would like to know if you can recommend any DIY planning tools/software/websites that would allow me to input my roof parameters, setup virtual panels, and calculate the cost/benefit analysis for me?

Hi John - Welcome to Solar Panel Talk!

DIY panels on the roof of your home more than likely would invalidate your homeowners insurance. Not a good idea. The panels can be located separately from the structure and there should be no problem.

Russ, thanks for your quick replies - that's awesome!
A bit more detail on my case: I am looking for a tool/software/website that literally allows me to build my house or roof in in (3D) and then put solar panels, so that I can figure out both how efficient it will be and also how it will look like (design is very important to me).

Does a tool/software/website like that exist?

Outside of the normal CAD programs I haven't seen anything - some of those are available free.

PVSYST is probably one of the best most used professional tools used out there.
