Just remember that even if you connect to a POCO installing a grid tie pv system may work out for you.

dnbuggy Though I've not owned a Generac standby generator (I do own a few portables of theirs however), I've heard enough negative accounts from owners, installers, electricians, and others about their reliability to give me pause. Perhaps others here who own them could weigh in. I'm a diesel fan myself - though it has notable disadvantages compared to propane - namely the longevity of the fuel without treatment. Nevertheless, make your generator decision carefully.

I own one of the Generac 3250watt propane generators. It has not seen much use but it starts and generates power every time I yang the cord.

I also have heard that the smaller 2000 watt inverter style generacs have a number of issues. IMO a Honda or Yamaha in that size and type would be a better investment.

Ask them if you can dig the ditch and install the conduit. They will want 3" installed. Or if horizontal boring is required ask them if you can hire your own contractor to do the underground work. $25/ft is very high. The going rate here is $5/ft to horizontal bore a new service.
