The alternative to upgrading the panel, if your local jurisdiction and POCO allow it, is called a line side tap. It is discussed in the NEC and approved there. Some installers are not comfortable hooking up that way even if it is allowed, but it can be significantly cheaper than a main panel upgrade.
On the other hand, maybe you will get other benefits from the panel change.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment

Sound like a great price to me & I'd definitely be going with LG's if i could get that price. I'm currently deciding between the LG 315's @ $4.40/w vs. SP X21-345's @ $5.09. Prices are always higher in VT (aside from car insurance)Comment

Droppin... where in VT? I'm just over the border from Bennington, on the NY side. Just got my SP X21-335W system up and running last week. Cranking out electrons like a champ9.38kW SP tinyurl.com/ReidySunnyPortalComment

Mine came in at $4.67/W. Very reputable installer, been around long before solar took off. The install was top notch and clean, and they did the little extras like squirrel guard. If you were closer I'd invite you for a looksee.9.38kW SP tinyurl.com/ReidySunnyPortalComment

By the way... you might be up there in God's country, but I'm a bit jealous of all the nice CHAdeMO QCs you have around you for EV charging. We have a ton of L2 chargers around the greater Albany area, but no QCs yet unfortunately.9.38kW SP tinyurl.com/ReidySunnyPortalComment

Can you post a link or two for these LG 315w panels? I google it and the specific panel isn't showing up for me. Keeps pointing me to the Solarworld 315w panels.
I'm asking mainly because I got 16 of the Solarworld 315w panels and I swear that the boxes they came in said LG on them. I even pointed out to the installers these were the wrong panels. He opened on up and sure enough; inside the label on the back of the panel said it was Solarworld.
Now when I google, I can't find the LG 315w panel specs, sheet, etc.
Ah! I found one!

That's a lot different than my Solarworld panels. SW panels are 72 cells, commercial sized. The LG's are 60 cell residential sized panels.
Just a quick check; the LG's weigh 10 pounds LESS than the SW 315's.
LG module efficiency is 19%, SW is 16%
Just for size and weight alone, I would have chosen the LG's here over the SW's. The LG site says there is a 2% degradation first year and .6% after that in their warranty.
LG 12 years product warranty, SW is 10 years
I paid $3.25 a watt for my 16 panels of SW315's and a SolarEdge 5000. That's turn-key and before any credits or rebates of any kind. I'm still happy with that price.
I'm making 30kWh+ a day when it's sunny all day. Closer to 31kWh, but never over 32kWh for a day. Installed July 23rd, so I might have missed some peak days.Comment

Sounds good to me. We just put in 24 LG305 panels six weeks ago, with an SE7600 inverter and power optimizers, for about $3.50 a watt. It's a great system; no worries with the LG panels.
$3.45 would be a very good price here in the San Diego area.
Is the SE6000 big enough? It's maximum output is 6000 watts AC: if you max out the 315 watt panels, the 7245 DC watt input is within margins, but even with losses, I think you'd exceed 6000 AC watts out, no? Of course, you'd need a very clear, sunny day in June with perfect panel orientation, no shade, clean panels, etc., to approach that, so probably would never happen in practice. The SE7600 has a fan in addition to convection cooling, so it makes a small amount of noise on sunny days (not a big deal in the garage).Comment
