My PTO is approaching, hopefully, so I'm thinking if there is anything I need to know prior to setting up the inverter for remote monitoring. I want to monitor it myself, do I need to tell my installer to not activate it? I remember reading there are different access levels which give you more or less of technical data, and want all of it. I do need to hook it up to the network first, likely with Ethernet for reliability and don't want to spend money on ZigBee. Is there anything else?

Access to the inverter data is through SolarEdge's monitoring portal. Your installer should activate the inverter and set you up as an owner, and can give full access to the reports. Your access does not impair theirs. If you'd like to upload data to PVOutput, you should also request an API key and the site ID from your installer.CS6P-260P/SE3000 - http://tiny.cc/ed5ozx -
Thanks. Does the inverter have to be online (as in connected to the Internet) for the activation? I realize it probably should be, but can the installer activate it and I will connect it to the network later, just not sure how the timing will work out as I need to pull a cable to my switch, and likely crimp it at the invertrer as the "gland" opening is kinda narrow to push an RJ-45 plug though it, for which I need to buy a crimper...Comment

The inverter can be paired with the optimizers and start making energy even without being connected to the portal. The "activation" is done by a SD card that is included with the inverter.
The rubber gland is slit so that you don't have to push anything through it, just pop the rubber out and slide in the cable from the side. A standard RJ45 goes through the fitting housing without a problem.CS6P-260P/SE3000 - http://tiny.cc/ed5ozxComment

It would be pretty bad if the inverter didn't work without being connected to the portal, wouldn't it?I was just thinking if the portal needs an ack from the inverter to activate I better make sure the inverter is on the network before my installer tries to activate the portal. However as no crimping is required it's really a non-issue then, thanks for the tip.

I wasn't able to do what you described, although it would seem logical. Instead I had to push an un-crimped CAT cable up into the hole, and then crimp on an RJ-45 connector. I'm not sure how I could have missed being able to slide a cable in from the side. I have the SE5000 inverter.Comment
