Solar install turning out really bad - looking for some help/advice please.

I take it you have not heard from the installer today? With inspection tomorrow he's putting the stress on you for sure.

I didn't except to hear from him today, so no surprise there.

Like I mentioned earlier, the "schedule" is that he's supposed to come out first thing in the morning tomorrow, bring the permit for the inspector (that's how it's done here, not sure if thats a nationwide thing...the contractor has to pick up the permit from the city and have it at the job site ready for the inspector), so say 7:00am and then fix the other small items needed before the inspector gets here...say 9:00am.

Only issue there is that the inspection time says 6:30am - 3:00pm, there is no actual set time, just sometime tomorrow. So there is a chance that the inspector could get here before, at the same time, or during the time that the installer is fixing things.

Oh, and I don't know how I feel about a new inspector coming out. On one end, the lady that came out was super anal - not that that's a bad thing for thing kind of thing - but she was a little over the top on some items (like the permit not specifying the amperage of the meter socket... the physical socket said 100A on it...and there's a 60A breaker on the system, some common sense could be used there).

She however didn't catch some other things, like a solar panel over a plumbing vent...and the new guy might, which would ROYALLY suck. That's another thing that my city is just being super anal about. City of Phoenix for example allows it, as long a the vent still has at least 1.5" of clearance above it.

You'd figure if the lady came back out, she's only check on the items that she marked as needed fixed, not look over everything again. There's a chance the new inspector will go through everything as if it's never been looked at before.

Checked on the status online just now and it looks like the same inspector from last time is coming out now, they must have made the change this morning. I bet the previous inspector got wind that the re-inspection is today and wanted to make sure it's her that comes back out.

Look at it this way, if you think they changed inspectors because the job had so many flags maybe that's a sign you needed serious instruction/correction on what TO do. The question now is will you inform your insurance co. about the capital add to your home? Without the inspector/signed permit, you have no leg to stand on if a solar-related fire occurs.

The big question is will the installer show up..with out the permit the inspector will just leave. The rest would be mute.

Funny funny ha ha ha.

Ok so almost done with fixing ****. Inspector hasn't shown up yet.

The guy ran the wire up on the roof through conduit, came out looking good. I worked on securing a ton of wires under the panels that were dropping and touching the roof tiles. So everything on the roof is done.



Moved on to fixing the two items not he ground...which is two ground bushing...but the installer forgot, he thought he already fixed that, so he didn't have the parts with him. :arizona: He now ran out to Home Depot to buy them, which gave me a chance to update this post.

One other thing that I'm hoping isn't going to be a problem...he didn't bring the whole permit with him, only the revised parts that were submitted and approved by the city. Hopefully that's ok and the inspector doesn't say they need the whole permit on site.
