I think the Sunpower panels he quoted were also discontinued, as he told me they had a large quantity they "got a great price on". The price quoted was $3.42/watt for the LG/Solar Edge system.

    Thanks!

FWIW, the LG price sounds about in the ballpark. Also, I too wouldn't be too worried about the froo-fraa on nomenclature as long as you get a data sheet you can match to the panel nameplate(s).

My current annual usage is about 12,600 kwh, so this system should cover my usage. I guess I could save a few bucks going with the SE6000 inverter, but I like the idea of having room for growth without replacing the inverter.

I like the monitoring of the Solar Edge system, and don't mind spending a little extra for it, but my roof will see very little shading. Am I throwing money away with this system, or making it unnecessarily complex? My impression so far is that Solar Edge equipment is pretty solid, but they have not been in the US long enough to establish long term reliability. I also received a quote using Sunpower 245 panels, but just can't see the 25% premium paying off.

    Appreciate any comments or recommendations!

You might be a bit oversized in the sense that replacing your entire electric load may not be cost effective, but that's not necessarily what I'd call that throwing money away if that's your choice and your aware of why a smaller system MAY be more cost effective.

Now, spending a lot extra on Sunpower panels that will produce about the same output as the LG's for quite a while - that's throwing money away - at least IMO.
