Don't be too happy yet, Summer aint here yet.... My Summer usage is about 1700 to 1800kWh per month... (base on 2014) I have 2 ACs just like yours.

I'm still kicking around the idea of switching from TOU-D-T to TOU-D-A... but spotty output like this has me concerned about TOU-D-A.

Without the high peak KwH pricing for generation available due to poor weather, your stuck paying the same high rate as a consumer instead.

Weather forcasters have pridicted a veery strong El Nino for this year, resulting in many more cloudy, rainy days, further hampering the advantages of the TOU-D-A plan.

I think I'm sticking with the safer bet, the TOU-D-T plan.

..... time will tell if this was the right choice.

I'd think long term and go with the long term estimate of output that uses the TMY data. Temporary fluctuations over a few months to a year or so are going to happen. Climate's what you expect - weather's is what you get.

FWIW: As of yesterday, my prior 31 day system output was about 80.4% of the same period last year. Perhaps not surprisingly, the Global Horizontal Insolation for the same prior 31 days this year was about 79.6% of the GHI for the same period last year as measured by the pyranometer adjacent to my array.

"May Grey" is also common around San Diego, depending how close you get to the coast. I'm about 15 air line miles from the coast at ~ 1,500 ft. above sea level so I'm usually sunnier than downtown, but the recent clouds here remind me why I left Buffalo. I don't recall a more persistent cloudy period since I've lived here - '95 w/ several yr. break.

We have our share of excessive clouds & rain here in N ILL. Clouds are expected, but not to be
quite so persistent. Sometimes we just get a brief peak at the sun for part of the day, between
clouds blowing by. Have been doing average 90 KWH a day in April, 106 in May. But this May
is running 80 KWH per day. Bruce Roe

TOU-D-T is now on "Summer Rates". Peak increased from $.22 a KwH to $.34 a KwH.. a 55% increase.

Off peak went up $.01 to $0.14.... only a 8% hike.

This increased pricing offset will add nicely to my TOU credits, rolling into summer.

If you look at your emphase output on a recent sunny day, how much percentage would you say you make On-Peak vs. Off-Peak?

TOU-D-T is good but it only offers you 12 to 6 at peak rate credit. Rest of the production is 1 to 1 during any other hours. Your Summer over generation is very unlikely to get you to level 2 (130% of baseline. Maybe during June or Sept) But you can turn on your AC more as long as not between 12 to 6.

TOU-D-A Peak at 2 to 8 which still good for Summer, but any other time still higher than 10pm to 8am super off peak. My AC is turn on mostly after 6pm and majority during night time, so I figure the TOU-D-A might works better for me.


Both TOU plans can saving your more credit regardless depends on which plan is better for you. I just don't like TOU-D-T the 130% baseline increase to level 2, which that happen to me during Summer and Winter. It will cost more$$$ per kWh banked.

If we use kitchen appliances around 5-6PM and turn on the air around 5PM on hot days, would TOU-D-A still be a better choice? Or is that assertion strictly for production during the day to receive the highest credit rate?

In a 12 hour solar "day"... I produce all 12 hours... but more generation occur's in the "peak" 6 hour period than the "off peak" 6 hour period due to "noon" being shifted later in the day.
