I did 10ga to avoid the resistance of a long run between my S/W corner solar panels, on my N/E located electrical buss panel, for any future expansion onto my West facing side if a Tesla shows up someday, and for just good building practice.

If 12 AWG is large enough to meet code, the decision to go larger could be based on the additional cost of the heavier wire vs the value of the energy you keep because it has lower resistance. That decision will depend on how long the run of wire will be. For example 15 A going 20 ft (one way distance) in 12 AWG should drop 0.4%. In 10 AWG, the drop would be 0.25%. If the distance is longer, say 100 ft, it is 1.98% drop in 12 AWG, and 1.25% drop in 10 AWG. You can use a voltage drop calculator to compare your options.

I see your installer used 10 gauge wire... my installer said they use 12 gauge but can use 10 gauge if I demand it. My question is there really going to be a difference in one versus the other?
I am using 36 of the enphase 215 micros (my panels are canadian solar 250w). He said the micro trunk cable is 12 gauge because they are 20 amp circuits with no more than 17 micros to a circuit.
