Understood and generally agreed, except maybe that a leak might develop from material dryout/temp. fatigue and not be discovered until it rains maybe some months later. I'd think it might be better if discovered early - like immediately after remediation. if for no other reason to remove the time factor from SolarCity's playbook.

My point on a soak/check was that, if done, and the roof remediation was sufficient and tight, a soak would do no harm, cost little and provide some comfort factor. But, if a barn job was done, an immediate soak done - and done before sign off, might serve as a fast check that would be pretty hard to argue about if it went to something like small claims court. SolarCity took their time with the removal. I'd suggest a homeowner can certainly take a day/2 to get around to a sign off, especially if some confirmation/testing of the job integrity seems to be in order or a matter of common sense. Seems to me the large(r) potential benefits outweigh the relatively small costs.

I was more pissed that it took them 6 days to fix everything. I sent them an invoice for me missing out on work for 6 days and they claim that I did not have to stay home for those 6 days but they never said when they were coming back so I wonder what they would have done if I wasn't home? Would they just climb on my roof or go into my backyard with me not home?

Kind of a moot point now.

Maybe I should bill my installer while they install/repair my solar when I'm home. What should I list on description part? Watching them doing the work for $80/hour? open the gate so they can enter my backyard for $200? Let them get on top of roof for $150?

Mxxxon, you are asking people to your house to remove the solar. All they need from you is agree for them to access to your roof to remove the solar equipments. You do not have to be at home, because there is nothing you can help them besides open the garage door/gate. You are more than welcome to stay home watching them doing their job since that is your house.

This is totally none sense billing someone when you request for the job. Maybe I should bill you for reading this none sense and waste my time.

For starters I didn't request that they remove it...

Secondly, I didn't say that I was billing them for the one day that we agreed upon them being there. It was the five extra days that it took them and then when they finally scheduled the roof repair with me they didn't come to repair the roof that day, they said they were going to come the next day and they didn't. They finally came on the third day. And the solar company never actually did schedule a a second visit to come take the rest of the gear. I am self employed and travel for work so I am forced to take time off because I have to at least be home to let them on the property.

I bought a house that had been forclosed on( An investor bought it from the bank and i bought it from him). it had a lease that we refused to take over (From Original owner). Long story short after a year and a half we let them take it. This was after being told they were going to sue us for unauthorized use of power and lawyer fees. Funny thing is we tried to let them take it when we first moved in but they never showed up or even called . Before letting them take it we made them write up a contract saying in detail exactly what they were going to do. The first one they wrote was garbage. It didn't protect us in any way and included a gag order(Not Kidding). We finnaly got them to write up something that included them getting a demolition permit( I figured this at least protected my home from being butchard ) and removing all ucc filings. they were willing to do all that as long as we signed the gag order part. we said no and if the gag part was the only thing stopping this from getting done then they could just take us to court. They agreed drop the gag order part so we signed.(They did say it wasn't a gag order but that's what i considered it cause it stated we could never talk to anybody about the resolution and if we did they could sue us) I can say its a good thing im in construction cause they tried to leave my roof in pretty bad shape. they also had to buy tiles for all the ones missing from their jacks. i have a grey roof and because the tiles are no longer made they said the closet thing they could find were almost white. That wasn't a big deal cause I put a new system up and swapped them out with ones that i took out for my new jacks.

Wow to the gag order part, but I guess I can't say I'm surprised. Good that You held all the cards and even notified them when you moved in. Mind sharing who it was and what state?

I'll assume SolarCity unless Otherwise notified. Not surprised at the porky lack of professionalism and slow responses.

                      Thanx for the information.

I know this is late to the forum, but we are experiencing a similar issue with a foreclosed property with leased panels. We didn't want any part of the 20 year lease and the solar company told us they would not release the UCC for us to get a morgage. Curious how you got around this?

I suggest walking away and finding a home that doesn't have a huge liability bolted to the roof (but that's just me).

Unless you can get the lessor to sell you the system free of the lease, you probably won't. Get a copy of the lease and take it to an attorney familiar with leases and contracts.

More of the joys of leasing.

We did offer to buyout the system, but not at their asking price. It's taking them weeks to decide. Other option was for the bank to ask the solar company to remove the panels, which was sent to their legal department and might take weeks to months just to make a decision. We're being offered to sign release of contract of sale and think this is our best bet. All the while the solar company told me months ago they will release the UCC to facilitate the sale no problem. Also, the lease the original owners signed states multiple times the company does not place a lien on the property. Interestingly, our morgage lender will not provide a loan with the UCC there suggesting it's a superior lien to the morgage. Also, I read some information that the UCC filing can prevent refinancing down the line. So I guess our option is to wait around for answer which could be no or just find a another house...
