    A roof without a building?
It was "on a residence" now it is "on a building" so almost all structures other that pole mounted.

I was talking with my local AHJ and they have no clue what they are looking at. Since this year is the first time I am going to put PV on my roof I need to comply but, not quite sure how. My systems are set up to NOT turn off. I have a 12kVA UPS, Xantrex XW inverter with battery and automatic generator. I can turn off the PV but that will not kill my house. The problem is where do the PV conductors stop....
In my case a "rapid shutdown" is somewhat misleading to first responders and the older labeling for alternate power source makes more seance. (You should see the warning labels! LOL)

What concerns me is what will the new regulation do to the cost of a system. And will existing systems be required to make hardware changes to meet the new regulation or will there be a grandfather clause?
I'm not sure what the costs will be in the US see (http://www.firesafesolar.com) for the US Agent. Here in New Zealand the costs range from approx $NZ435 for a 6 panel RSI or $480 for a 10 panel RSI. E.g., for a 3.0 KW solution with 12 panels you would need 2 x 6 panel RSIs so costs are approx $870 for a new or retro install. If the costs are taken over the whole solution its not a lot considering it enables Rapid Shutdown Isolation and peace of mind.

A DC contactor can also be used and should costs a lot less! (but not easy to find)
Just don't forget "Equipment that performs the rapid shutdown shall be listed and identified."
