does this cover the full cost of ur electric bill in NY area ? I just leased my panels thru sunpower but ur price seems really cheap ? Federal and state rebate of 8300 ?

I'm in NY as well, I had a similar system priced out through Astrumsolar and was about $8700 after all rebates. This, IF TRUE, is very very very cheap.

How big is that system? I needed around 15,000 KWatts to operate my house so these other companies would not work for me, hence the reason I went with Sunpower 335 series panels . His price sounds cheap though

The accounting could be problematic, not familiar with what the NY state tax incentive is, but I calculated the 30% tax credit as $4560.


So $25,000-$9800 rebate-4560=$10,640. So unless New York is offering about a $4000 tax credit, those numbers are off.



Even if it was $10600 as the final price, that's still a really good deal compared to what's available across the rest of the U.S. right now. b

That is amazing incentive. If NY has the same cost of power as California, then your payback period is about 3 years or so.

NY has gone crazy with their credit. They should do it like PA used to and pay by the watt or do it even better with an SREC program based on what you produce and not the system price. I hope the state at least approves the install and verifies with pictures. Here in pa, the state required certified installers do the install and all engineering diagrams and pictures of the system be provided.

At least with all these rebates, please choose American made products if you can. Lets at least keep jobs growing in this country.

New York state provides a 25% tax credit, uncapped on top of the ridiculous utility incentive? I mean....damn. That's crazy. Pretty confident in saying you folks have the best net price on solar in the country, less than $1.00 a watt installed after all is said and done? Madness!!!!

Just like everywhere else the incentives will get toned down sooner rather than later, every state discovers that these hefty incentives aren't sustainable....but while they're available, you may as well take advantage, because they won't be around forever.

According to NYSERDA typical rebate for the installer is between 25%-35% with a max of 40%. Looks like your installer went for best case scenario, which is somewhat dangerous. If you take the middle point at 30%, then your rebate is probably going to be about $7500

The nyserda credit is a pretty simple formula 1.4 * installed watts upto maximum of 9800. In my case that would be 1.4*7000 = 9800.

you are correct. I just went back to my quotes. Just to let you know how great that deal is, I'm in Westchester county and had Astrumsolar quote me and a local Solar company. Here are the details of the starting sum:

AstrumSolar = 6.615 kW system (27 Hanwha 245 w solar panels)
$30,098 with a special "sign up in April discount of $1500" = $28598

A Local Solar company = 6.12 kW (24 Hyundai 255 w solar panels)
$27,958 with all discounts

Both are using Enphase inverters.

Hey if your system ends up really costing that much, I'm very very much interested, so tell your installer he can get more customers!

I was reading through NYSERDA's requirements for PV and found a stipulation may affect the final rebate amount.

"In general, incentives for a typical residential or commercial system cover
installed cost of a PV System but not more than 40%, after all tax credits are applied."

That's a normal stipulation that a lot of utilities around the US have to limit the size of the incentive. Going by that standard, the highest rebate you could obtain would be around $8100.
