The way I dealt with that was indeed by installing my own monitoring system in my main electrical panel.
I have an Emporia Vue 3 that monitors my grid input output, my inverter breakers, and the other house breakers.
In addition to that, I am lucky that PG&E lets me download hourly consumption value from their website.
I can then put these number side by side in Excel, and I can see hour by hour what the PG&E values are versus the Emporia Grid CTs
In my case I get very close correlation, but if there was any discrepancy, I could see where it is coming from.
