    SolarEdge Optimised Inverters

    Hi,

I run a College Estate and we are looking at installing a solar PV system on a high-level flat roof at one of our sites and have the option of including SolarEdge Optimised Inverters within the installation at additional cost.

It’s a 540 panel system with around 230 kWp peak power output.

The write up is good on SolaeEdge but the cost adds around 30% to the project.

I would be really interested to hear from anyone who has undertaken a similar size solar PV installation recently and has experience of the benefits of SolarEdge Optimised Inverters or otherwise.

I have a solar edge system in the USA. 2 reasons for installing them on my system, needed something per code to disconnect each Solar panel in the event the system needed to be shut off by fireman during the daylight hours, and have some early morning and late evening shading. Individual panel monitoring is a nice perk, but I only check that once a month looking for wide variations in panel outputs.

What are your codes in the UK?

      You don't need forum advice.
What you are considering is way out above the pay grade of most posters around here.
You need a consulting or engineering outfit that knows and has experience with commercial size PV arrays.

        J. P. M. is right. I will add, if you have a large array with no
individual panel shading issues (or very little shading), then
optimisers may do almost nothing to help performance. And
they add cost, hard to service failure modes, and could even
lower output slightly, as they will run lower voltage and are
not 100% efficient. good luck, Bruce Roe
