    Immersion dumping

Hi all. I'm new on the forum today. We are installing a PV system on our roof at the minute and I'm getting conflicting advice that I'm struggling to navigate.
Our current setup is Gas heating (LPG), underfloor heating (Wet), dual coil tank, we have 2 solar hot water panels.

My confusion is that we have been quoted for an Eddi system to direct excess power to heat the tank through immersion. (5KW battery too)
The installer says the Eddi might be incompatible with gas heating. I had considered that it was supurflous as the days that we might have excess power we will already have hot water from the hot water panels. Any advice or experiences welcome.

Do you have net metering available from your power provider ?
How much of your annual electrical load is the new PV system designed to replace ?
Who did you get the quote for the Eddi system from ? The PV installer or someone else ?

Without a lot more particular detail about what you have and how it works it's difficult to offer additional information.

However, from what the New Idiot's Bible (u-tube) has to offer about this "Eddi" system, it does look to me like this Eddi system is a load management type system that's being proposed to use excess PV generation to heat water.
Aside from dealing with how such a system would interface with existing gas fired water heating system(s), if you have net metering available seems to me that if a PV system was sized correctly, there wouldn't be that much excess energy to heat water with anyway.
What type of solar water heating system do you have ? How old and how much of your DHW does the solar water heating system provide ?

Hi JPM, we have one supplier. I.e. all equipment has been quoted through 1 point of contact. They have visited our home but I'm not convinced that they took all relevant aspects on-board. From my own calculations with the help of the battery we might cover 75-120% season dependent.
Our thermal solar system (Kingspan flat) provides all HW needs in peak summer and tapers to near 0 in winter.
I agree that the immersion diverter probably wouldn't be any benefit. It would introduce competing systems that would compromise efficacy.

It sounds like the Eddi is probably of little benefit since you already have a solar water heating system. If you have EV then the Zappi may be more useful.
