Ah, I see. I can understand that. I suppose I'm lucky enough to have mechanical & electrical engineering friends that I can obtain advice from.
As for soldering, it's something I do every day on very small parts that go in PC boards. I guess I'm the quoted, "Jack of all trades, master of none". I know enough to be dangers to myself but not to others. he he.
So what you are says is that you're not down on DIY? You just want people to know what they are doing & getting themselves into. If that's the case then that's all I'm trying to convey here. That

      Building inspection:
Where a county, to collect taxes, needs to inventory the "improvements" made by property owners. additionally, they don't want their serfs (tax payers) to die, so they set up a scheme of building codes, inspectors, and Code Enforcement Agents, to:
Make sure fees and taxes are paid
Buildings are assessed for values (and tax)
Buildings meet minimum requirements so they don't fall down and kill the tax paying serfs.
For solar, this generally covers engineering for the mounts (I had to have an engineer certify my pole mount foundation, 10' deep, 24" hole, cement & rebar) or that the roof will hold the weight, and wind load. Also, all the wireing and grounds.
My county is one of the last to allow homes to be built without bathroom, and allow pit toilet (1 acre lot minimum ) but solar PV installs over 50W they require permit and inspection !
