greetings!
we have recently received an installation of a power-one aurora inverter and 4kW of panels here.
we also received a geo solo wireless monitor that shows the output of the panels and inverter. so far, all is well.
we also though, need a monitor that connects to the electricity meter, to know more precisely what is occuring - and ideally would prefer to connect all of this into a pc (best of all, i would prefer to only use a pc for monitoring - and not use any extra boxes of any kind.)
during installation, i requested that the monitor device that is installed, not be a wireless one - since i am conscious of the potentially hazardous health effects of wireless signals that are not harmonically attuned with the body (which the ones currently being used are not). as such, all electrical devices here are wired. however, my request was ignored and the geo solo was delivered anyway; so i wish to replace the wireless geo solo with a wired equivalent.
i have contacted some manufacturers of solar monitoring technology, asking for wired options - so far only one has said that they could offer a wired solution. however, the technology that this group (eco-eye) are suggesting is not their current range, does not connect to a pc and does not even unify the data from the meter with the solar inverter (they are offering 2 seperate boxes, one to monitor the solar system and one to monitor the meter).
so i am still looking for an approach which only uses wired connections (no wifi/radio) and which can connect to the meter, the solar system and a pc. does anyone have any links/suggestions in response to this request?
i have contacted power-one, the makers of the inverter we are using and they make a converter which can be used to support a comms cable from the inverter directly into a pc - which will allow monitoring of the solar system - however, they do not offer software which will integrate that solar data together with data from our electricity meter. plus, power-one are charging £100 for the RS to USB converter box! (which is available generically for less than £10!).
any tips welcome.
n.b. i appreciate that the 'accepted wisdom' of many will scoff at such claims about wireless technology, however, i refer you to, for example, this british MI5 specialist in microwave technology, confirming what i am saying:
