    Which system to use in Malta?

    Hi,

    I would like to set up a photovoltaic system in Malta, Europe. Just to give you some information about our island, we are a very sunny island with most of the months hitting UV @ 10. We have a very short winter with UV still around 5-7. Therefore I guess Monocrystaline panels are a must for here. The average temperature in Summer is 35ish degrees celcius – sometimes going up to 40.

    I am currently reviewing quotes for local suppliers. The whole list is here :

    Our current average unit usage is 10.42 units per day – totaling to around 3456 units per year.

    My favourites at the moment are:

    1) 7x SunnyPower SPR327 + Sunny Boy 2500 Inverter
    2) 10x Kyocera KD245GH-4YB + Sunny Boy 2500 Inverter
    3) 10x Hyundai HIS-S255MG + Sunny Boy 2500 Inverter
    4) 8x Renesola 250W + Renesola Inveter
    5) 12x ET Solar ETM572205 + Kaco 3002 Inverter
    6) 10x SolarWorld SW250 + Sunny Boy 2500 Inverter
    7) 10x Bosch c-Si M 60 M 265 + Sunny Boy 2500 Inverter
    8) 9x Sun Tech STP290 + Growatt 3000 TL Inverter

    They are all in the same price range. Therefore at this stage efficiency is king. I am still waiting for some quotes to arrive – will update when received.

    Also I am finding it hard to find out which panels have a protective salt coating or not. In Malta, being a small island we have a problem with salt – therefore the coating would provide useful.

    # 1 is your best bet for high temps and salt spray which shouldn't be an issue unless you are right on the water on the windward side of the island

      Thanks Naptown. Will a 2100 Inverter be a good bet or its better paying an extra premium for the 2500?

        I don't believe they make a 2100 but the full model number would help.
        You may get away with a 2000 but I would need to check

            Hi again,

            received some other quotes and this is the latest fight:

            12x 240 Trina TSM-PC05 = 2.88kW = 4,550kWh per yr
            11x 255 LG S1C = 2.8kW = 4,432kWh
            8x 327 SunPower E20 = 2.6kW = 4,133 kWh

            All the above can come with either a PowerOne Aurora Uno 2.5-1 (max rated DC: 2.6kW) or else a Sunny Boy 2500 TL

            The roof in question is this: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1...ccj9UWsTE/edit (the roof is of the washroom touching with our roof – so no problem that there will be some panels hanging over the roof) – excuse the rough drawing

            Our idea is this –

            In area 1 we put 10 panels: 5 x 1 meter width x 2 levels – so we need to over use 1 meter on each side.

            In area 2 we put another 2 panels (horizontal view) decked on top of each other: 1 x 1.5 meter width x 2 levels

            If need be we can also use area 3 as a backup. There we can put 2 x 1.5 meter (horizontal view). Area 3 will be the reserve area and we prefer not to use it.
