Hi there, I've just joined, live in Johannesburg, South Africa, and recently fitted solar panels in my 10m* 5m pool. Its heating nicely, however when the pump cuts off after a cycle, there's a loud tuck tuck noise and vibration (closest i can explain), that persists for a few minutes while the water drains. This noise and vibration can be felt and heard from the PVC pipes draining the water from the panels. Anyone experienced such and any idea what could be the fault here.

Sounds like a plumbing problem to me! Do you have a non-return valve in your setup? Vibration and noise could be caused by a non-return or foot type valve slamming shut and causing water 'hammer'. Maybe this valve is faulty and not sealing correctly? Also could be caused by air in the line where it shouldn't be. Just a couple of suggestions for ya!...that persists for a few minutes while the water drains.
For the system to be able to drain back, there needs to be an air vent at the high point of the system. If it is opening and closing, that could be the noise you hear.
Or if there is no working air vent, you might be hearing the effect of air bubbling back into the top of the system as the water drains.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment

Re : Noisy Problem
If it really keeps going for minutes, then it is not just water hammer.

It does sound like the water and air are fighting for space due to a lack of ventilation. Does your system have a vent/valve at the high point? Does it have/need a non return valve?
All water drainage systems are vented to ease the flow of the fluids. If you have a pump to push the water up to the roof then this pump must have a non-return valve in order to retain its 'prime' unless the pump is submersible or at a level lower than your swimming pool and therefore always primed.
There are several solutions depending on how your system is designed.Comment
