Hello,
I am a retired systems analyst from California, now living near Davao City Philippines.
Compared to the cost of electricity in California, I have a good deal today. Cost is about 20% of the California electrical bills. However, I cannot say what my usage was in CA. The difference is in my bill today and what I remember paying in CA.
I am considering a grid tied photovoltaic system for my house. I have looked at PV solar panels every few years since 1985, and I am sorry to say they are still too expensive (based on installation costs). I survived the electrical pricing and shortage nonsense of 2000 and 2001 in CA, where one newscaster noted that if only one in 20 homes had PV panels then, there would have never been an issue.
One thing that annoys me, is when you say you are interested in PV panels, you get a survey that is useless. how many refrigerators, TVs, etc do you have, and how much is each rated for? Nonsense. Regardless of what I have today, things change. Tv's die, Refrigerators get old and use more power etc.
Much easier and better to start with the latest (or highest) electrical bill in the last year, from which you can read the actual usage. My last bill noted I used 1,259 kW Total , for a daily average use of 41.97 kWh/day for the month ending Aug 15th.
That should be enough from which to compute the necessary PV panels. And from that, the inverters, etc.
