    NRG SunCap PrePd delays

    HI,

A local contractor solicited me for a solar rooftop system last Oct and I signed an agreement in November (2011) - it's now August 2012.
I thought by Jan/Feb 2011 it would be up and running.
But it's now the end of August and still no system.

The agreement (to my knowledge) didn't have a completion agreement, so I don't have much re-course I guess.
(If you have experience in this area and CA law, please chime in.)

The construction contractor is always super polite and even helped me out on another project that I was doing myself getting me some extra help which went well.

The contractor at one point explained that SunCap was bought out by NRG and is now NRG SunCap LCC (still out of Texas).

At several other points he sent over runners with more paperwork to get signed,
changing the number of panels and locations (upon recommendation by the system designer in Texas)
and now this week again with another amendment to switch to a different Enphase Inverter model.

So now the system to be installed (whenever that happens to occur) will be:

6.25 kWatt DC (STC) photovoltaic system / 5.308 KW CEC AC

Canadian Solar Panels 250 (25 panels total in 3 arrays - south/west exposure of home roof)
    Enphase Energy Inverters (25)
    ProSolar Mounting System
    Locus Energy Monitoring System

(please chime in if you are knowledgeable on this equipment, pros and cons)

I have to sign this amendment and return to them.
Would it be nuts at this time to add a Completion Agreement Amendment created by me for them to sign
and give it to the runner as part of this Amendment Agreement or should I just sign it as is,
and express my concern to the contractor personally (over the phone) about the extended delay on the installation.

I was hoping that the June- July - August - Sept expensive AC bills
(it was over 108º one day a few weeks ago) would've been reduced by this installation by now.

    Other Info on System/Deal:

    Seller: American Home Remodeling
System Owner: NRG Suncap LLC (Houston Texas)
Local Rep in CA: Progressive Power Group (Garden Grove, CA)

    20 yr lease - pre-paid
7 yr construction loan for pre-paid lease (pays for system in 7 yrs instead of 20)
So the NRG Suncap is paid off immediately
and the bank who provides the loan gets paid off in 7 yrs.
(no pre-payoff penalty, so I could get a home equity loan at some point and pay it off with no penalty if possible).

If anyone has had dealing with any of these products or companies, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

thanks for this group and forum, I hope to learn whatever I can to make this a pleasant experience,
even though I did already sign up for the whole enchilada.

The installer is full of crap. There is NO logical reason for the system taking so long to install. They sound like they are taking you for a ride and depending on when you signed the contract, there should be an NRG "all bets are off" clause if the system is not installed in 6 months.

If you wish to PM a copy that has your personal information either removed or blacked out, I'll be glad to point it out for you, all while keeping it completely confidential.

Waiting almost a year for an install is absolutely ridiculous, at the longest it shouldn't take more than 4-5 months, any longer speaks of disorganization and incompetency on the part of the installer. The NRG changeover from SunCap to SunLease was largely inconsequential and only really mattered on paper, that should not have delayed them in any fashion.

    This part also concerned me.

NRG is obviously the leasing company, who the hell is this Progressive Power Group in relation to American Home Remodeling, also why is your system being engineered by someone in Texas? NRG has plenty of local based partners in CA that aren't subcontracting or using other gimmicks and nonsense. My honest advice to you would be to get some additional quotes, look around, see what else is available, if you find a good deal, contact NRG, call them directly, and tell them that your installer has been screwing you around for almost a year and you want out, period.

KRenn is right it something aint right

I imagine the scenario goes something like this. American Home Remodeling (AHR) does just about everything but solar and a large source of their leads come from canvassing or a phone room. Since AHR doesn't want to bother with solar when they find solar candidate they take a percent or two and hand them over to Progressive(PPG) who is in the solar industry or AHR sold the job and contracted w/ PPG to do the install. Yes KRenn is correct a year from when you signed the contract is way to long and just about every agreement has an out clause of about 6 months. Not for your protection but it works out that way sometimes. One consideration is a year ago these were selling for much less than they are now. What kind of pricing did you get? There are companies here still chanrging 9-$10 a watt I would tread very carefully from here. Nothing about this sounds right. I wonder if these "amendments" you keep signing are keeping you within the 6 month window for installation? I did a brief check on BBB on these guys and nothing popped out at me. If you chose to continue with these fellows read every word carefully or better yet have an attorney read every word. If you can post the paperwork with personal info removed I would be curious to see it too and I know some folks that do good work in that area.

        Sfd,

You have made a lot of posts which say nothing but "Would you please"
Are you having trouble posting? Or were you just trying to get to 10 posts to be able to send PMs?
Please try to make only understandable posts in the future.

Sorry, I have a hard time with this. I can't find my way around and can't post correctly. Look like it's better now since I restart. Thanks.
