Could anyone please give me a rough idea of the cost of an isolation link. I have just been billed for 3 of them by my installer - this is on top of what I paid for the whole kit and caboodle of panels, frames, inverter and labor for installation. I think the isolation link is a meter isolation link and I checked with a local electrical supplier who quoted $17.50 each. The installer is asking $110 each. Smells like a rip-off. The installer is a sub-contractor for the suppliers of the system. I live in Cairns North Queensland, Australia.

Welcome.
I'm not familiar with the term "isolation link". Do you have a photo, or some links to a product in a catalog ? We likely call it something else on the other side of the world.Powerfab top of pole PV mount (2) | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

isolation link
It is also called a meter isolation link - it goes between the electricity suppliers meter and the inverter I imagine. I dont know why I need three isolation links because I am not 3 phase.Comment

thank you for the photo
thank you - I also found that photo and I have found out from an electrical supplier that these type of links cost about A$16.50. I am still trying to find out why I need three and why I have been charged $110 each for them.
When I find out - I have sent a query to the installer - I will let you know.Comment

In Queensland a Meter Isolator link is now required by law to protect the Linesmen from feed in from PV systems. If the power is turned off by them they still could be in trouble with the power coming the other way. I was quoted from my PV installer $250 for 2 links with the 2 phases coming in. Seems a bit rich if they can be purchased for $17 each and 1 hours work. I think I will buy the links myself and have them fitted for labor only. Cheers.Comment
