Newbie to solar, but trying to learn fast

Hello all,

I am new to solar but learning quickly. I am in Georgetown TX. I am currently laying out and planning a 20.4K ground mount grid tied solar system. I have been looking for the last week and reading through the older posts to learn all I can. I am very mechanically inclined, comfortable with both 12 V DC and 120&240 AC. I believe I understand the basics of solar power, but the devil is always in the details

12vdc. is something you'll only see on a nearly depleted 12 volt nominal battery. Most grid tie arrays and now many off grid arrays are outputting hundreds of volts. Be sure to educate yourself on working with and the dangers of high voltage dc power.

Thanks for mentioning that,, I have a healthy respect for both AC and high voltage DC power.
I got up to speed on high voltage dc, when I was looking into how to transmit my power from my array over to the house, over a 350 foot run.

That's a pretty long pull. the beauty of high voltage is you are dealing with lower current and consequently smaller wire. The higher voltage you are running the less voltage drop you have to deal with, I believe.
