Howdy Pennstlong and welcome to the greatest solar forum in the world

Lots of good info in the threads, read up and come back with any questions, understand your usage and how your billing works and find a good installer and you should end up with a good result, cheers.

Welcome. I am also on Long Island. I am working on getting quotes now, but also looking into a DIY install.

I know a few people that went with systems installed by Long Island Power Solutions and they were happy. I have also heard that Sun Nation is good.

Signed with empower located in island park. They use sunpower345w panels and are super nice. Very supportive and understanding. My sales guy Scott isvery knowledgeable and responsive. Every question was answered on the spot, even technical questions on th inverters.

Talked to a few other companies including solarcity, so pushy. Even kept on calling when I told them I am going with another company.

You know when a company is serious about solar when the company has electric car charge ports and solar panels in their offices.

          Now the wait starts...

I'd be interested in seeing the price in $/D.C. Watt paid by Acamato and by Pennstlong for comparison purposes.

I'd recommend going for an SMA inverter with the "secure power" option. After hurricane Sandy hit, a lot of people I knew on Long Island lost the contents of their basements to flooding (and the contents of their freezers to spoilage.) A power source for even half the day would have saved them a lot of heartache (and expense.)

I wanted to report back once the install had been completed, so Today is commission day.

                      -10.35 KW DC System
                      -30 Sunpower 345 Panels
-2 SMA 6000TL Inverters with Secure Power Supply
                      - Installer had to install knee walls for roof support
                      - $4.04/W (before incentives)
                      - 2.26 (after Incentives)

                      From 8 am - 4 pm. 40KW generated.
