New to solar, hitting my head on a few Victron "road blocks", need help.

    Hi,

I hae just finished installing my first solar system, a Victron Quattro 12/5000/220 with 3 250W ReneSola panels and Micro Inverters.
I did the DB wiring and installation myself, with a little 105 A/h lead-acid-calcium battery.

I would like to flash my Quattro to the latest firmware but the local Victron rep. is insisting that I have an agent do it.
I would like to run HUB-2, on my Quattro, but am being denied the firmware.

Is there any chance any of the members have the latest firmware for a Quattro 12/5000/220, or know of someone who does?

I am a Computer Engineer, did three years of electronics study at University so I know what I am doing when it comes to flashing devices.

    Thank you
    Peter.

If "They" don't publish the firmware, it's likely considered proprietary and the dealer/vendor is going to have to do it. But all press to them, that you bought new stuff with old firmware and it's not the same specs as you thought you were buying, maybe get the update free if you plead right.

And not all the solar stuff is straightforward flashing, like the inverter shutting off, and the powered ethernet router stopping half way through the flash = Brick, 102 lbs of brick.

Mike 90250 is correct Victron is an excellent product but a bit like Apple computers you just cant do much to them yourself.. Its really not worth trying either.. as you just dont know all the actions of the software.. Turning it into a door stop is expensive.. Use your computer experience on something you have previous experience with.. Thats my advice. similar to Mike90250

Thanks for the input, is there a more "open" inverter/charger range, that does allow some home experimentation?
The reason I want to use the latest firmware is to try out the Hub-2 v3, micro hub with grid feedback disabled, looks like a perfect solution for me.

On a side note, apparently misconfiguration can cause batteries to explode, does anyone have any experience with battery explosions.
I would really like to know how to avoid that.
