Like many opposing points, energy dependence and energy independence can be viewed as two sides of the same coin. The usual problem in such cases is the coin is a counterfeit slug and both views are at the far ends of continuous reality.

I'm not sure solar or anything else in the developed world brings energy independence any more than the electrical grid mandates or proscribes a life dependent on being tied to an electrical cord.
