Solar power for bird nesting box camera

    Hi,

I'm in the UK and I'm a total novice in solar power.

I've been looking at purchasing a wireless bird nesting box cctv system where the energy for the camera runs on solar power that I can view the birds on my TV or PC. Kits including the box and camera/system with solar power are generally very expensive - around £300 - even though it's possible to buy a wireless camera for £40 and a bird box for a similar sum.

Any suggested ways/products that I can cheaply power the camera? Some cameras come with 9v adapters, for example.

I live in a lower light area (Scotland). What kind of charge/storage would I need for a decent amount of viewing time?

    thanks for your advice

The very first thing you need to know before proceeding is just how much power (volts and amps) the camera system draws. That, combined with how important it is to keep the camera working through a series of cloudy days, will determine the size of the system. Without that, there is no way to say what you will need.
Can you locate/wire the batteries in such a way that you can replace them or connect an external charger to them without getting so close as to disturb the nest? That would greatly reduce the system size for strings of bad weather days.
