I'm looking at converting the GE 5cu chest freezer to a fridge via a digital thermostat that will just turn it off and on to control the temperature. Problem is GE says it needs 15amps to start but I just don't believe them. I have a feeling their being safe at 15amps. This will be the deciding factor on which Inverter I use on my off-grid system. Does anyone own this unit and/or tested it for actual starting amps?
What are the actual starting watts for the GE 5cu Chest Freezer?
